How Time is Flying By...

It's been a few weeks and things are as always flying by here in Thailand. We just began our TENTH week of teaching at Anuban school, which marks exactly half way through the semester. It blows my mind how much time has gone by as it seems like we just started teaching there and before we know it we will be gone.
We finally bought our flights home so after a year teaching in Thailand, we will be back in the U.S.A on October 23rd. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!!

My 1st grade students have somehow opened up even MORE, and almost for the worst, as now I can't seem to ever pry their hands off me. Despite my lack of personal space at any time during my teaching days things have been having fun though, I have in recent weeks taught the students about clothing, their faces, colors, and this week objects and their colors!

The past couple of weekends have been busy. Felix, our friend Rich, and I decided to head to Bangkok for a relaxing weekend after the 4th of July weekend. We had a great night out on Khao San, and then Felix and I had an extreeeemely leisurely day (which means basically sleeping half the day away..something that we almost never get to do). We were up and running again in time for an early dinner and out of our favorite spots to eat, the all you can eat sushi place Takethai on Rambuttri St. (we had valentine's dinner there too). For lack of words this place is belly swellingly delicious. After the first hour of eating the endless plates of sushi, I usually however am thinking I will NEVER eat sushi again but mere days later, just looking at the pictures from the night I already had the craving to go back.

Fully stuffed we headed to Siam Paragon, the giant mall to wander around and see Twilight (...disappointment). AFTER though we finally made it to a place we have been talking about going forever.. Sirroco, Bangkok's "Sky Bar" ! This place was on the 64th floor of a fancy building and was definitely worth seeing. As we exited the elevators we were ushered out by a whole staff of people and taken outside to be blown away by the view. The bar/restaurant is perched on the roof way up in the sky. THE actual BAR a part is circular and jutting out of the far end of the roof, looking like a lit up jacuzzi. It was surrounded by a narrow area to drink and look straight down over the glass railing into Bangkok. It's pretty much mandatory to buy a drink, so we sipped on fancy cocktails that were extremely delicious and swanky looking, although they didn't taste like they contained any alcohol and were a staggering 400 baht a piece. All worth it though, we stayed only about 20 minutes but took fantastic pictures, and listened to jazzy music from the live band and mingled around the "business elite" looking crowd dreaming of the day we will too be rich and famous .. ahh.

We spend the next day at Bangkok's weekend market, a huuuuge place where you could literally get just about anything you need. After making some great purchases we got back on the bus for the 6 hour ride back to Chaiyaphum!

Since they we have had some English camp weekends but not much else. Last Friday we had an Anuban field trip to visit Chaiyaphum's famous flower, the Krachiao flower or "Thailand's Tulip". We had about a 2 hour drive and rode up a mountain to see the flower fields. First we stopped and went to some beautiful cliffs overlooking the green valleys shrouded by mist. As we entered the fields their was a wooden boardwalk through the whole valley. The flowers were little pink blooms that were everywhere and not like any other flower I have seen before. There were so many and they were so pink they almost looked cartoon-ish. We winded our way through the flower fields with endless photos with teachers and students. We had been hearing about the flowers for a long time as this is the time when they are in bloom but hadn't made it to see them yet so I am really happy we were able to go with the school to see Chaiyaphum's famous flower fields. We even got to bring home our own Krachiao flower to keep! The last stop of the day was some strange rock formations and a waterfall where the students proceeded to splash around in the water fully clothed in their school uniforms haha.

We have a few more days of school this week and we FINALLY have a much anticipated holiday coming up ! There will be a 4 day weekend for some reason or another and us and our friends will be headed to the beach! We are going to Koh Samet, an island not far off from Bangkok that we have not seen yet. Seeing as it's been almost 3 months since we have been on Thailand's white sands I am extreeeemely excited. Yayyyyy beach beach beach!
